CrossWorlds by Anan Anan Thathamma was born in Prachinburi, Thailand in 1969, and grew up on the eastern seaboard, where he spent 12 years of his childhood living in a local temple and studying Buddhism and Sanskrit. Here he gained an appreciation for arts, as he was constantly surrounded by ancient Buddhist images. At the age of 18, he decided to move to Bangkok to gain more of life’s experiences.
He has been a keen art student at Alliance Française for several years, during which time he has also travelled extensively throughout Asia. Anan draws upon the objects and scenarios he sees around him every day for inspiration in his art, with an unexpected slant. Having studied both watercolours and oil, Anan prefers to use oil to highlight the contrasts and contradictions he depicts in his paintings.
Anan Thathamma’s debut exhibition “CrossWorlds” features eleven oil paintings reworking familiar objects and themes in an unusual fashion. ”CrossWorlds” will be shown in Dick’s Café Bangkok from 30th August to 11th October 2001, from 9am to 5am daily.
Dick’s Café Bangkok is located in Duangthawee Plaza, 894/7-8 Soi Pratoochai, Surawong Road (opposite Thaniya), Bangkok 10500. Tel: 637 0078.
